The East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension in Hong Kong officially opened for service last month, marking a significant milestone for the city’s celebrated railway network.
Working with MTR Corporation and other stakeholders, our team delivered tunnelling design services for the railway extension, a part of the Shatin to Central Link (SCL) strategic railway line. The AECOM team worked on the design of the tunnels from Hung Hom to Admiralty, helping to realise the 1.7km long cross-harbour section of the SCL, which featured an immersed tunnel. All the immersed tunnel elements were prefabricated in a casting yard at Shek O and then towed to Victoria Harbour for installation.
The project, awarded Tunnelling Project of the Year (up to US$500m) in 2020 by New Civil Engineer, will provide millions of passengers with convenient and efficient mobility, aligning with our mission to create opportunities for everyone through infrastructure.
