Te Wai Horotiu (Aotea), Karanga a Hape (Karangahape), Maungawhau (Mt Eden) and Waitematā (Britomart) are the new CRL station names, gifted by the Mana Whenua Forum. These names are steeped in history and heritage and reflect significant geographical features around the stations.
The station designs are the result of years of effort from many in the Link Alliance team and reflect a design approach that is in partnership with mana whenua. Design features align with the gifted Te Reo Māori names and allow elements, including art and culture to converge.
AECOM, as part of the Link Alliance, is honoured the Mana Whenua Forum gifted these ngā ingoa tuku iho (traditional names) and provided invaluable mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) throughout the project. Both the names and the designs demonstrate the uniqueness of Aotearoa New Zealand.
