Crossrail Farringdon Station

London

Crossrail is currently the largest construction project in Europe. Strategically important for the continued prosperity of both London and the UK it provides a new 118km railway, crossing London from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the West, via Paddington, Farringdon and Liverpool Street, to Shenfield in the North East and Abbey Wood in the South East.

AECOM was awarded the multi-disciplinary design package for Farringdon station. Our design, innovation and quality approach for Farringdon Station and the East Ticket Hall over-site development (OSD) was based around a central theme of ‘making the complex simple’.

Farringdon station comprises two platform tunnels, each more than 240 metres long, linking two new ticket halls at its east and west ends. The West Ticket Hall is integrated with the new Thameslink station entrance and has been designed ‘collaboratively’ with a separate developer’s team to accommodate a future OSD. The East Ticket Hall adjacent to Barbican London Underground station has also been designed to support a future OSD.
