Westferry Printworks
Isle of Dog
In line with the London Plan and Local Opportunity Area Framework, AECOM addressed key infrastructure challenges at Westferry Printworks to upgrade the original planning consent from 750 to 1,500 new homes, 35% of which are to be affordable, and ensuring greater energy efficiency across the scheme. The 15-acre development comprises a services site for a 1,200 space secondary school, community centre, creche, sports and healthcare facilities, commercial office space and a mix of independent retailers, restaurants and bars.
Our MEP Engineering team facilitated major services diversions, including a large-scale, below-ground dock water heating and cooling energy solution, to free up valuable surface space. In addition, building heights were raised within the principles of the original masterplan – allowing us to double the density on this key Isle of Dogs project.
AECOM also ensured that the homes are designed for a de-carbonising electrical grid, and the development is exploring the potential for an area waste heat network with heat sourced from an adjacent data centre park to further enhance its sustainability.
