AECOM-designed Pier A will help Amsterdam Airport realize its vision to become one of Europe’s leading aviation hubs. The new eight-gate pier and airside facilities will increase the airport’s capacity by 14 million passengers per year. Keen to avoid the challenges typical of projects of this scale and complexity, we implemented an ecosystem of innovative technologies and software to ensure the smooth-running of the project. Schiphol has a complex asset management portfolio and an intensive capital development program. They are at the forefront of using BIM to make sure they have good quality data available covering the entire asset life cycle, enabling clear, timely and transparent decision making. With design teams located across Europe, collaborative cloud-based workflows allowed continuous coordination in a live working environment. Digital workflows strengthened communication, dramatically improving the efficiency of information flow between disciplines, assisting quality and aiding earlier identification of issues.
