For Adam, an experienced HR leader, talent acquisition and resource planning specialist, success is about ensuring that people remain at the heart of every program. “By shining the spotlight on our talent, and creating opportunity, we can ensure that the teams on our program are committed and motivated to succeed as well as being empowered to deliver to a high standard the program outcomes”.
Plan ahead and connect early
By his own admission, Adam loves the “thrill of the chase” and the excitement of aligning talent to a new program but he goes on to explain that planning ahead and connecting with talent early is critical to the success of a program. Being “ready to go before the program hits” enables AECOM to move early to align talent to opportunities, building strong partnerships and ultimately increasing the likelihood of the success of a program.
Making a difference
So, what does Adam most look forward to in his own role, leading the global talent resource for AECOM’s Program Management team? For him, it’s about “pulling all the threads of talent across the organization together, and “thinking as one team, one AECOM, whose resources can smoothly move from program to program.”
“I enjoy drawing everyone together, supporting people to acquire new skills and experience new things along the way,” he says. “Building and developing the right team is absolutely key, nurturing, and developing people who can become not only the best in the world, but who are committed to creating programs that are best for the world.”
When the stars align
Adam sees networking as a critical component of Talent Resource and he really values connecting with talent not only from with AECOM but also from “further afield”. It is important to Adam to take time to listen, “to understand an individual’s motivations and aspirations” and to “explore how the stars could align to enable them make their next step in program management one that is taken with AECOM”.
