The conversion of an old quarry in Hong Kong SAR has led to an entirely new residential area being created. The new area of more than 20 hectares will when complete, accommodate homes for up to 100,000 people.
At the heart of the project is a new artificially created lake. Our design concept was a ‘Sponge City’ emphasizing the blue-green infrastructure to create the artificial flood attenuation lake, underground stormwater storage tank, green roofs, biofiltration system and porous pavements, to reduce surface runoff to drainage systems and provide more open public space.
The newly created 2.8-hectare lake park, will be the first of its kind in Hong Kong SAR. The lake is purposefully designed to catch water runoff and mitigate flooding, while also providing irrigation and a spectacular backdrop for the children’s play area. The lake and the surrounding park will also serve as a thriving ecological habitat for species native to the area.
