In collaboration with Hall McKnight Architects, we were proud to win the international design competition for the historic core of the Gallaudet University campus and its adjacent public realm along 6th Street NE.
We wanted to create an inclusive public realm; places of social interaction and engagement, that are tailored and customized to illustrate the unique identity of the place – an urban deaf space. We choreographed the landscape with deaf space concepts in mind that can further optimize sensorial and visual reach.
We also spatially oriented and located elements to optimize mobility, openness, visibility, acoustics and awareness to create this new and important public space, the development of which will soon be underway.
