The iconic Health Technologies Building sits at the main entry to the Lakeland campus. We worked closely with staff and faculty to completely renovate the 52,000 square feet. building and develop the 75,000 square feet. addition. The project program consisted of teaching laboratories, classrooms, offices, and open public spaces. A large, three-story atrium acts as a new campus hub that connects the main campus buildings with the original Health Technologies building and its addition.
Our design aims to immerse students in a range of learning environments that extend both indoors and outdoors. Inside, the renovated and newly constructed laboratories and classrooms feature the most current technologies and are designed for maximum flexibility. Soft spaces, such as walk-through lounge seating and “Grab & Go” food service, provide the necessary social and instructional interaction. Outside, we integrated the landscaping into the campus master plan with nature walks, outdoor teaching and learning areas.
As part of this project, we performed a campus-wide energy study that allowed the design of the building to cut the overall energy usage for the entire campus. The project also achieved an LEED Gold Certified rating.
