Jinji Lake is the centerpiece of the Singapore-China Industrial Development in Suzhou, China. The 550-hectare lakefront development is one of five special development areas designated by the government to attract Fortune 500 investors from the U.S. and Europe. The project combines complex urban design and environmental solutions to create a new community for 600,000 residents and multi-national corporate facilities.
The landscape master plan incorporates eight neighborhoods around the lake. Special emphasis was placed on the urban design and architectural interface to establish the image and character of the parks and open space system. Plan components include a large ceremonial plaza and mixed-use development adjacent to the central business district and a linear waterfront promenade on the west shore. The south shore features a historic fishing pier, a neighborhood shopping district around a man-made cove, and a Sustainability Education Center with wetland gardens.
A series of active neighborhood parks and an arts and entertainment district, with an aquarium, outdoor concert pavilion, and display gardens make up the east shore. The north shore is composed of a waterfront park, wetlands, a signature bridge, and a man-made island for resort and water recreation uses.
Our role in the development of Jinji Lake has not only led to the improvement of water quality and ensured the future protection of the aquatic environment but has also created a new sustainable, natural, community amenity.
