We designed a 27,000-square-foot pre-school building in Brooklyn, New York for the School Construction Authority. The school consists of classrooms, an exercise room, parent and staff rooms, as well as a warming pantry and 3,000 square feet of playground space. The new building brings a much-needed pre-school program to the communities of Park Slope and Gowanus which have been converted from industrial to residential and commercial use in recent years. The project was focused on sustainability and meets the latest local NYC laws, reducing the amount of energy consumption on heating and cooling load. This is achieved by strategically placing solar fins on the eastern and southern facades, while maximizing natural daylight in the classrooms through a double exposure window layout. PK 710 exceeds the Green School Guides level for sustainability.
