Welborne Garden Village is at the forefront of a new generation of comprehensively planned new communities in the UK. Located on a 400ha greenfield site, between the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth, it has been planned to support the economic and social growth of South Hampshire. The village is being delivered by master developer Buckland Development Ltd whose long-term vision prioritizes placemaking and community development over short-term financial returns.
The village will be home to a community of c.15,000 people and includes district and village centres, a secondary school, three primary schools, a new business quarter, sports, leisure and health facilities and an extensive network of open spaces, parks and woodlands.
We have been leading the master planning of this major project for over a decade. Our work has included developing a garden community vision, learning from the character and planning of the UK’s original garden cities and suburbs.
In developing the landscape and green infrastructure strategy and delivery plan, we’ve created an approach to neighbourhood and street design that seeks to maximise the amount of green space and greenery within an attractive and walkable community.
Welborne Garden Village is now in the delivery phase with construction starting on the enabling infrastructure and with the first residents due to arrive in 2023/24.
