Reservoir resilience and risk management

UK and Ireland

For over 40 years we have been assisting our clients in the UK and Ireland to manage the safety of impounding reservoirs and to ensure compliance with the Reservoirs Act 1975, delivering asset management condition assessments and risk-based management for more than 400 reservoirs, across their asset lifecycles.

We have worked with Scottish Water, Northern Ireland Water, Irish Water and other public sector, commercial and private clients to ensure compliance with legislation, ensuring critical assets remain safe and confirming plans for incident response, contingencies, shutdowns and outages. We have also developed procedures to ensure that inspections and assessment of reservoirs provide adequate asset information to allow optimised decision making.

We have undertaken asset health and performance monitoring, inspection, reporting and certification alongside a full suite of design services including geotechnical, hydrological, hydraulic, structural and seismic specialisms. This includes major civil engineering works for the creation and renewal of assets.

We have also performed asset planning roles providing strategic planning, design and environmental services for new and future water supply and hydroelectric dams across the region. The implementation of such schemes can often take decades, typically with high capital costs. This combined with lifecycles potentially spanning over 100 years requires carefully informed strategic investment planning decisions.
