The goal of this engagement was to demonstrate how data management problems could be solved using Microsoft’s Power Platform. During the initial conversation it was discovered that the Environment Agency was using multiple Excel sheets to gather information about data maturity, and then manually combining them into reports, so it was decided to tackle this issue as an example problem.
Work done and value provided:
To ensure optimal user experience, a short engagement was undertaken, utilising discovery workshops, user story mapping, wireflows, and high-fidelity prototype of a digital product solution. Then, a standardised and easily accessible data entry was created using Power Apps, with central data storage, combining and securing all data. Processes were automated and a flow was created to update the data since it changes month on month. Automatic notifications were also set up. A real-time PowerBI report showing data maturity and building insights over time was built as well, and a paginated report option to create pdf updates was added.
A range of possibilities of Power Platform utilisation was provided on a real-life example. If the solution is implemented and a sufficiently large data set is created, the Environment Agency could be able to create a data model and start to use predication algorithms to see when areas are likely to see improvement base do previous trends.
