The Environment Agency has large numbers of images with no location information, which makes it impossible to analyse those images further.
Work done and value provided:
Using existing solutions, AECOM built a logic tool that could not only cluster images with similar locations and provide an overview of where these areas are, but that could also discover more precise locations of many individual images. This would hugely speed up and often replace the manual search on Google Maps. If this solution is taken forward for production with recommended augmentations, the predicted algorithm results would be as follows:
• 100% of images could be found in a road or path network within flood risk mapping of the area of interest • 70% of images could be clustered • 30-50% of images could be directly or indirectly located • 15-20% of images could be directly located
A presentation summarising the solution, including a demonstration of the interactive mapping with geolocated images was completed.
