Client Name: Environment Agency
Location: UK, York (North-East Hub)
Services: Project and programme management, contract and cost management
Project Description: The Environment Agency, working in partnership with Calderdale Council, is looking at options to implement Natural Flood Management (NFM) features in the Calder Valley to reduce the risk of flooding downstream. This includes a range of measures to slow or store the flow of water through natural vegetation and features. The study is also looking at wider ecological and biodiversity benefits and recreation management. Through the Client Support Framework, AECOM has seconded in a Project Manager to support the Environment Agency project team to manage and deliver this study, and to work collaboratively with delivery partners and key stakeholders.
Added value: Working closely with the delivery partners, AECOM has helped to support the co-ordination and engagement with a wide range of key stakeholders and landowners to understand the land use opportunities and priorities for NFM. Due to the Upper Calder Valley moors designation of a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation, it was critical to ensure a common understanding of the different environmental and ecological constraints and potential impacts of NFM measures from each specialist area. This was achieved through collaborative workshops and collating specialist data in consistent and easily understood formats.
