The key focus area of this project was standardisation and how best to support it, while under-pinning governance. There was a need to support strategic pillars of the Environment Agency / Flood and Coastal Risk Management strategy (FCRM) but make it relatable at grass roots level. To facilitate this, there was a need for a tool that would act as a mechanism and facilitator to bring together all parts of the Environment Agency / FCRM standards and the various locations they are hosted in, and support change management and defines the Environment Agency way of working.
Work done and value provided:
After a cycle of engagement conversations, it was decided that two digital documents will be provided: FCRM Data Basics Playbook and FCRM Periodic Table of Definitions. The Data Basics Playbook explains in a user-friendly and engaging way the basics of working with data. It also provides links to standards and tools related to data, so that their location is clearly communicated to the Environment Agency’s employees. The Period Table provides clarity and explanations for data acronyms and definitions. Both documents help drive consistency in messaging and provide a single point of truth for the Environment Agency and aid to internally communicate data quality basics and importance of data quality procedures.
