Working collaboratively with Scottish Water, we’ve helped upgrade the Loch Turret reservoir which supplies the Loch Turret water treatment plant, the highest treatment plant in the UK and one of the largest in Scotland. It provides water for over 70,000 people as well as feeding Scotland’s oldest distillery, the Glenturret whisky distillery.
Built between 1961 and 1964 by the Central Scotland Water Development Board for public water supply, the large impounding reservoir covers an area of 1.84 km² and is formed by a zoned embankment dam with a reinforced concrete core.
Loch Turret reservoir falls within the ambit of the Reservoirs (Scotland) Act 2011 which states that maintenance works should be undertaken regularly to prevent dam breach and ensure it does not endanger local communities. In line with this we have undertaken the design of drawdown improvement works, access improvement works to several intake structures and various maintenance works at the reservoir.
