Using historical documents, aerial imagery, personnel interviews, and on-site observations, AECOM developed and continually refined a streamlined process for identification of PFAS Areas of Interest (AOI), potential adjacent off-site PFAS sources, and drinking water receptors. Some findings relied largely on recollections from retired and current facility staff, and corroborated with photographs, newspaper articles, or other printed material.

The team’s preliminary assessment provided preliminary conceptual site models for each AOI. Our team helped prioritize AOIs for further investigation using a project-specific scoring system. Where there was a high probability of impact to drinking water, AOIs were prioritized. Wherever concentration of any one compound in any environmental medium exceed the screening values, the site proceeds to the next phase: remedial investigation.
