Since 2017 AECOM has been engaged in various capacities at RAAF Base Richmond to investigate the nature and extent of contamination, the human health and ecological risks and to develop a PFAS Management Area Plan (PMAP). More recently AECOM has been engaged to deliver the PMAP, including the use of innovative investigation methodologies such as lysimeters and rainfall simulation to develop remediation end points at the Former Fire Training Ground.

When compared to traditional laboratory leachability assays, it was found that rainfall simulation had a significantly lower soil: water leachability correlation and could enable more accurate prediction of PFAS concentrations in storm water run-off from exposed surfaces.
