Infrastructure resilience in Turkey
To help communities better cope with climate impacts, the World Bank tasked us with providing recommendations for infrastructure asset and network resilience to four municipalities in Turkey.
In Turkey, a range of natural hazards are increasing the risks associated with climate change for many urban areas – with potentially catastrophic consequences. To address this, we worked for the World Bank, in collaboration with the Turkish government, on detailed risk assessments for four municipalities.
Climate change risks
Climate and disaster risk assessments were conducted for Rize, Tekirdag, Kahramanmaras, Manisa intended to inform urban planning approaches and identify and implement climate and disaster resilient infrastructure investments.
As technical lead, our detailed risk analysis included extensive analysis (spatial, economic, financial, and institutional), bringing in hazard and scenario building along with the identification of vulnerable infrastructure and neighbourhoods.
Urban transformation towards more resilient cities
Following an assessment of each city, we provided recommendations for infrastructure asset and network resilience, while identifying proposed measures and investments to develop robust infrastructure and effective urban transformation projects. This will help communities better cope with climate impacts by reducing and managing these risks and empower national and local stakeholders in undertaking similar steps in the future.
