Following the flooding of over 2,100 homes and businesses caused by Storm Desmond in 2015, the UK Government committed to improving the flood defences of Carlisle in order to make the city one of the best defended in the country.
Carlisle Flood Risk Management Scheme (FRMS) is a multi-phased project delivering flood risk benefit to over 2,800 homes and businesses. With a capital cost of approximately £75 million, the scheme is a combination of new linear defences, ‘topping up’ of existing walls and embankments, pumping stations, channel improvements, and creation of up-stream storage areas.
We have been instrumental to the delivery of the Carlisle FRMS in project managing the three phases of the project. We have developed a collaborative relationship with the Environment Agency, sharing knowledge, building trust and delivering successful outcomes for the Carlisle area.
